Ambiance Congo for Sunday November 22, 2009

Welcome to Ambiance Congo!
This edition I once again offer older music. You'll hear a number of LPs and reissue CDs.
These programs of classics seem to be the most popular. Do you agree? I'd love to see your comments here!

  2. @Ambiance Congo:

You're right. The seasoned lovers of Congolese music go for the older music. There was something magical about OK JAZZ, African Jazz, African Fiesta, Co-Bantous, Les Bantous De La Capitale, Orchestre Veve, Orchestre Sosoliso, Empire Bakuba, NĂ©gro Succes. Generally, anything older than King Kester Emeneya takes time to seep in. However, the newer Congolese music has its followers, namely the young people. For the youth, especially Africans in the diaspora, Koffi Olomide is blazing a trail. As our host, you do well to balance the interests of the two audiences. I speak for the older generation (40 +), and I know you strike a chord when you feature the founders of Modern Congolese music! Thank you very much for sharing these gems.

  3. Thanks for your kind and well considered comments, Timothy.
I do my best to balance the program and to consider the interests of all potential listeners. As a member of the "older generation" myself, I easily compile programs of music from the 60s-90s.
It takes more effort for me to work with the newer sounds and I hope that more young people will eventually begin to contribute requests. That would help me to better address their interests.
