Ambiance Congo: April 22, 2012

Welcome!
Well this is fun! Google has changed how this page works and it seems I'll never be able to make the posts look like I want them to again. I suppose we'll all have to be satisfied with this new layout.
Let's give it a whirl, shall we?

This time around, I have a mix of old and new with some nice duets thrown in to compare, contrast and celebrate the wonderful new BLACK BAZAR album by Modogo Abrambwa & Sam Tshintu.

The album covers shown here are a few of those duets.

I have no idea why type can only be entered here at this point.
Or why it now appears way down here. Don't try to make sense out of it, friends, I can't either so you're not alone.
Regardless of what kind of a mess Google has made out their blogger pages, I hope that you'll enjoy the program.
There's a Zaiko Langa Langa song from 1978 in here that blow your mind. Have a listen and see if you don't agree!

You are invited to download the program and track list here:

If you wait more than two weeks and this link expires, you can still find the program in the Ambiance Congo Audio Archives:

Let's find out if I can post the track list here as well.

David, many thanks for the latest glorious AC show - quality music from start to finish. The Zaiko track was indeed mind-blowing and, with the Desuza and Kiam tracks either side of it, it made for a teeth-rattling trinity.

  2. Dave I'm glad you liked it.
I have to find out if the Dikoel who collaborated with Desuza is the same Dikoel who arranged the Black Bazar album.
I was going to say something during the program, but forgot to do so.

  4. Man I like this list. I see the two important people who are Sam Tshintu and Modogo because them two were unique characters of QL besides Eric Suzuki and Fally Ipupa. Koffi's best years was when he had those two guys.

I hope you heard the Zaiko song that you requested, FPK!

David, is there any chance you could dig out the Vadio Mambenga CD (Tambula Malembe) for the show on Sunday? Don't think you've aired it for a few years and I'd love to hear the track Esakola Ya Mawa. I believe he was from Brazzaville and I'm pretty sure that he and his "direct and uncompromising" style are no longer with us but, apart from that, I'm in the dark. Do you have any info about him?

  7. Sure thing, Dave. You're right. It has been a very long time since I played something from that CD.
So long that his name can't be found on a search of this blog!
He was in the Isifi Lokole group along with Wemba, Evoloko, Bozi and Mavulea Somo. Also, I think, he was another vetran of Minzoto Wella Wella.
He was handicapped and often performed in a wheelchair. I've seen film of him singing from the chair in drag also, but I don't really know what that was all about.
