Here on Ambiance Congo, I've presented a number of tributes to artists who have passed. A couple of months ago, you got to hear a full two hours of songs penned and sung by the late Ndombe Opetum.
It occurred to me later that, perhaps, it'd be a better thing to do to present a full two hours of songs by artists whose work I have admired so very much for so many decades, artists who are still with us today and who may even get a chance to hear the show.
So this time around I honor Josky Kiambukuta Londa, a singer who, like Ndombe Opetum, contributed so very much to the music of the greatest band that ever was, Franco's T.P. O.K. Jazz.
Like Opetum, Josky continued his career after Franco's passing to give us many albums of exceptional music. Like Opetum, he also worked outside of OK Jazz, giving us, again, many albums of exceptional music.
Two hours is not enough! Apologies for any songs or collaborations that you felt were missed. I can think of a good number myself!
So here you are, Josky, my humble attempt to honor you and to recognize the contribution that you have made to the lives of so many around the world...and there are a good number of requests here that do indeed come from around the world.
Here are some album covers that may represent a few of the recordings featured here:
