Today we spin all vinyl once again. Nice rare tracks from Ntesa Dalienst, Buesso Mbemba and Maika Munan. Great songs from Kiam, Docteur Nico, Trio N'yo.Bi.We and more!
Thanks for the request of the Franco song! Whoever requested it, I still don't know who you are, but I was happy to hear that you recognized Dalienst as the singer of one of your favorites. Thanks for listening!

  1. Lovely program list. Downloading the file now. I have learned so much about Congolese music from this show. Many thanks! Apurva from Pune, India.

  2. I am glad that you like it, Apurva. I think that you know a lot about Congolese music already, so it is an honor to me that you say this.

Many thanks for playing the Maika Munan track, David - that song has everything doesn't it? I just love the whole album but I have no idea why. It's one of those Likinga Chante Olemi type LPs - no classic but definitely one to be rescued from the house in case of a fire. Although to be honest I might leave the sleeve of Likinga Chante Olemi in the fire.

Another one I'd rescue would be Yenga Yenga's Bongo Bouger - it's superb. I also have his Jalousie Abat LP, which is equally pleasing, but I've never heard his other LPs. Do you have any others?
(I just looked him up on Google and found out he died in 2011. Not really what you want to read but probably not surprising)

On a cheerier note, have you heard Dagoson's new CD? Again, no classic but some nice songs and some good playing - all very tasteful and quite enjoyable. So it'll probably sink without a trace.

  4. Dave, I like the Maika Munan album, but I REALLY like that first track.
That Likinga album is great throughout IMHO. I even sort of like the weird cover, even if it does look more like Michael Jackson than Likinga Redo. (Save the MJ thing for Stino Mube, right?)I just checked and I have NOT ever posted that cover on this blog. Got to do it!
Have not heard Dagoson's new one. Decent sebene?

Re Dagoson; it's more Sebene-Lite than the full-flavour variety. Quite an achievement considering that no fewer than 8 guitarists get a credit!
