Ambiance Congo: January 11, 2015

Welcome! We are off to a decent start this new year with lots of requests and, as always, more music not played before on this program. I always try to show the breadth, diversity and consistent quality of Congolese music by giving you a chance to hear something different every time. This time, I was asked to play something from an album I do not have, so I looked it up and converted the song from YouTube.
The song, requested by our friend Apurva, is LE JEUNE BOUCHER from BANGO OYO BAYE,
the last CD recorded by the ever magnificent Choc Stars. I would love to get a copy of this fine
album, but, alas, I cannot find one anywhere.
Roxy Tshimpaka's solo guitar on that song is just one example of the great guitar you'll hear on today's program as we hear from Popolipo, Rigo Star, Olivier Tshimanga and others.

  1. Thank you for the lovely lineup of music. And of course, thanks for playing my request. Apurva from Pune, India.

  3. DJD Galere by Les Chics Men would be great. I love that group. You have played all the tracks on their sole Grosses Affaires CD except Galere. I love your program.

  4. OK. I think it's the one song on the disc that just doesn't come up to the others. But it's not a bad song and your wish is my command!

  5. Great to hear the Cele Le Roi track, David. It's one of those "if you don't play it then I'll never hear it" CDs, so thanks again.

Have you got your copy of Felix W's new CD yet? If so, what do you think? I reckon it might be his best yet - some real quality about it and one that you actually want to leave in the CD player for days on end. Lovely stuff. It sounds like Roger McGuinn is playing on a few of the tracks as well - what a mash-up that would be!

    1. I ordered my copy of Wazekwa's new CD three weeks ago. Hasn't arrived yet! Also should have Werra's new one as well as the JBlue you recommended a while back and Elba as well. Looking forward to the Elba.

  6. I'll be happy to play more of the Cel le Roi CD for you if you like, Dave.

  7. The Elba Top CD is very good, albeit a bit short, and features Wuta Mayi, Theo Blaise, Nyboma and Faya Tess amongst others. What's not to like about that line-up, eh?

The Werrason is also pretty good, although you'll have no choice but to leave that one in the CD player for days on end.....or even weeks on end if you ever want to hear all of it! The word "epic" doesn't really do it justice.

I see RogaRoga also has a new one out now. All this fresh stuff - happy days indeed.

  10. Hi Dave,

    Wonderful line up as always.

Thank you so very much for introducing me to the wonderful work of Carlyto Lassa. I loved everything about his song.

And thanks to @Apurva Bahadur for requesting the song
