Ambiance Congo: April 5, 2015

Welcome!
This program was presented on Easter Sunday, so we start out with a few songs that are or seem to be appropriate to the day. There is some great guitar work on some of these religious songs from Rigo Star, Nene Tchakou and others, so don't miss out.
Our friend George M. in New Jersey requested something "by Aurlus Mabele back in the day", so I've picked a pretty good song by him and also a song from Awilo Longomba's first solo album - his best in my opinion.
Enjoy the program here:

Thanks for the latest AC show, David, you're a hero for giving up your Easter holiday to spin the discs!

After hearing Awilo's "Superman" CD, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a good Awilo Longomba CD. You may have answered my question with the track you played off Moto-Pamba. Very nice.

Thanks for the Bongo Wende track - you don't usually play much from the likes of Mav Cacharel or Aurlus Mabele, so it made an interesting change.

Have you ever come across a CD called "Amour Du Siecle" by a guy called Diassy Tzen? Seems to be a Cour des Grands-ish sort of release from about 15 years ago, much in the vein of Santa Nyanga's Ouragan. I stumbled upon it recently and absolutely love it, but surprisingly there's no trace in the AC archives.

  4. Hi Dave. Moto-Pamba is a good album. No ifs or buts. Beside Awilo,iIt features Dindo Yogo, Sam Mangwana, Luciana Demingongo, Abby Surya and Pompon Kuleta on vocals with backing by Ballou Canta and Shimita. Guitars are by Syran M'Benza, Dally Kimoko, Rigo Star and Lokassa with Ngouma Lokito, Pablo Lubadika and Miguel Yamba on bass. Awilo does what he does best on this album: he plays the drums.
Never heard of Diassy Tzen. Is this available someplace?

Right, I've got to get Moto-Pamba then. I've seen it loads of times and just assumed it would be rubbish. Show's how stupid I am, I guess.

Re Diassy T'Zen; I got a second-hand original copy from someone in France but when I researched it I found the CD here

    http://www.antilles-mizik.com/diassy-tzen-amour-du-siecle-p-13812.html

    and a digital version here

    http://www.amazon.com/Amour-du-si%C3%A8cle-Diassy-Tzen/dp/B00TYOSCYO/ref=sr_1_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1428863700&sr=1-1&keywords=diassy

Both show release date as 2015 so it looks like it got re-released. It's very good; see what you think about the "Ouragan" comparison.
