Ambiance Congo: January 10, 2016

Welcome and thank you for your requests and comments!
Here we go with lots of music from the 1980s though about 2010, but there are a couple of newer tracks. You'll hear a number of albums featuring artists like Reddy Amisi and Josky Kiambukuta in front of groups like Viva la Musica and T.P. O.K. Jazz. You'll hear solo albums by others like Doudou Copa and Ferre Gola who have left other groups like Extra Musica, Quartier Latin and Wenge Musica Maison Mere to start their own bands and make their own music. We even have an album from Pamelo Mounk'a who has returned to Les Bantous de la Capitale to record some songs from his solo career.
Sounds like a mixed bag of some wonderful music, doesn't it? I hope you'll enjoy!

  3. A stylish start to the year David - and it's great to hear stuff on your show that I'd normally pass over, like Rochereau's C’EST COMME CA LA VIE LP. Listen to it on its own and it's not great, but somehow it sounds terrific when you play a random track off it amongst other great songs. The magic of radio.

    Re new releases;

    Luciana has a new CD out shortly - http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01ACA10VK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

    I just picked up a copy of Tresor Mvoula's CD "Coffre Fort" which is pretty good, and features Roga Roga on a few tracks - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019JTO8BY/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp

    Desouza had a nice nostalgia CD out last year called "Les Ambassadeurs". It's a fantastic CD but doesn't really take us further into the 21st century. That's assuming we want to go further into the 21st century, right? http://villageafro.com/produit/desouza-santu-les-ambassadeurs/

    Christian Lema's recent release "Il Est Temps" was a bit of a let-down, in my opinion. I sort of hoped for something better. Great cover, though.

    Djino's "Commandant de Bord" from late last year was instantly forgettable, again just my opinion.

    So here's what's on my shopping list for the new year;

    Celeo Scram

    Brigade Sarbati

    I'm not expecting much but I'm pretty confident that there'll be some good stuff in there somewhere, so if I find a gem I'll let you know.

    BTW, do you remember Santa Nyanga's "Belle Epoque"? Having convinced myself that it didn't really exist, a friend of mine in Paris finally tracked down a copy for me in a music shop there. It's superb. So, many thanks for making me aware of it in the first place.
