Welcome to Ambiance Congo!
Thanks to violent winds and torrential rain, electrical power and internet service have been unavailable to me for a few days. All has been restored now so here is the post for last week's program.
The show this time starts off with a track from Reddy Amisi's LIKELEMBA but is otherwise is all older music. Your requests add to the quality of the selections and I want to thank everyone who contributed.

Ambiance Congo: November 20, 2011

WELCOME!
Recent trends and fashions in Congolese music have led to a lot of commentary about how bad these trends and fashions have been. The guitar-led sebene has been a rare element in new music, a lot of new albums are filled with yawn-inducing ballads and songs with incomprehensible tempo changes, noisy atalaku calls and growling, mabanga-filled lyrics. These are all valid complaints, but not all new music should be readily dismissed and there are, in fact, quite a number of good songs and good albums being made.
On today's progam, I've tried to present for you some examples of the good new songs out there on the Congo music scene, songs produced in the last year or two. For variety and comparison, the show starts and ends with some older tracks, most presented originally some ten to twenty years ago.

The program two weeks ago was presented during the final hours of our fund drive (WRIR is a non-profit community radio station staffed by about 150 volunteers) and the show was chock full of talk about that. I was pleased to have Paul Mwema sitting in with me for this edition of Ambiance Congo.
Paul has been living here in the USA for over a decade and is a local listener and supporter of the program. He helps out today with some commentary on the lyrics and titles of a few songs and was kind enough to add his requests to yours for what I hope you'll find to be a very good show.
