Ambiance Congo: February 21, 2016

Welcome!
I have a really good mix of older music and new music for you today! There's a new maxi-single from JB M'Piana and another form Roga Roga & Extra Musica. It's great to hear from JB again, but I'd like to hear more than three songs and an instrumental! Let's hope more is on the way. JB, Roga Roga and Tex Mabote have killed it in this set with hard-driving music that builds to great seben, something I am loving to hear again!
I'm loving what the new wave of Afrisa is doing here in the USA, so included today is a track from their first Paris album which I bought some 20 odd years ago and still enjoy today.

Thanks to Dave in Liverpool recommendations of Christian Guillame and Desouza Santu and
I hope that our friend Banda Aime, who commented that he thinks that I "hate Papa Wemba", has seen that this is just not true!

Ambiance Congo: February 7, 2016

Welcome to Ambiance Congo radio program!
Today we have some wonderful music from the 80s and 90s and some new music as well.
We start with a dedication to our Kenyan friends, a recording of Franco and TP OK Jazz recorded in Nairobi. How many of you were fortunate enough to attend one or more live performances by the All Powerful OK Jazz?
I recently obtained a beautiful copy of Edo Ganga's Pot-Pourri sur le Passe... Pont sur Congo-Zaire LP, an album I heard many years ago but have never, until now, been able to find in good condition. It's a gem, and if you don't care for pot-pourri compositions, this album may change your mind. There are also two short songs by Edo Ganga on the album, and we hear one of those today.
We start off the second hour with a track from from the new CD by ex-Grand Zaiko Tex Mambote. I liked his first CD, Coup de Foudre, so much that I bought this new one, Cyclone, without sampling the songs...and I have not been disappointed at all. There are some excellent compositions and arrangements here, accented by great guitars by invitees Caen Madoka and Beniko Popolipo. We will definitely be hearing more tracks on future programs!
We also have a cut from Luciana Demingongo's new Romeo Sans Juliette. This was recommended to me, and it has a couple of excellent songs, but IMHO it just doesn't live up to his great last album, Zanzibar.
Mixing the new and the classic makes the best programs, I think. What about you?

WELCOME!
I have been waiting for a some new music to arrive, but the snowfall here in Richmond has kept the mail carriers at home...or at least away from my home!
So in Part A, I look back today at some music from the 1995-2005 decade. That was some really good music, as I hope you will agree. It's also modern music that was recorded before this program began in 2005. I've played a number of tracks from these discs on this program before, but not the ones chosen today.
One of my favorites for today is from a Congolese band residing and working in the Netherlands, Solo N'Dinga & Alliance Nord-Sud. The reack here is a killer that you just can't play loudly enough! Go ahead and try!
In Part B, we go back in time farther on a number of tracks for some great music by Verckys et le Veve, Franco et Le T.P. O.K. Jazz and more.

Give a listen, let me know what you think.

Ambiance Congo: January 10, 2016

Welcome and thank you for your requests and comments!
Here we go with lots of music from the 1980s though about 2010, but there are a couple of newer tracks. You'll hear a number of albums featuring artists like Reddy Amisi and Josky Kiambukuta in front of groups like Viva la Musica and T.P. O.K. Jazz. You'll hear solo albums by others like Doudou Copa and Ferre Gola who have left other groups like Extra Musica, Quartier Latin and Wenge Musica Maison Mere to start their own bands and make their own music. We even have an album from Pamelo Mounk'a who has returned to Les Bantous de la Capitale to record some songs from his solo career.
Sounds like a mixed bag of some wonderful music, doesn't it? I hope you'll enjoy!
