WELCOME TO AMBIANCE CONGO!
Friends and followers, listeners and new visitors:
You won't find any autotune or electronic beats here today. What you'll hear are real voices, real guitars, real horns and real percussion.Today we have a selection of songs from one of the best eras in Congolese music, beautifully composed, beautifully orchestrated and beautifully sung. This is strong music, strong music with a unique and electrifying fire. Music that has captured the hearts and minds of millions of people all across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, Western Europe, India and Japan. Music that has been lovingly collected, shared, emulated and even copied wherever it has been heard.
This is Rumba Odemba, the Old Style of Congolese rumba from well known masters like Franco of TP OK Jazz, Celestin Kouka of  Les Bantous de la Capitale, and Dr. Nico of African Fiesta - to musicians like Sax Matalanza and Papa Noel who played in those bands, came up through the ranks and continued the good work - to others who strove to make excellent music in the format and genre of the giants.

I have more vinyl for you today, mixed in with some CDs that refer back to the age of the LPs, but it's all good. I've got another old album with Dodo Munoko from Afrisa International -who will be in Richmond playing multiple sets in October at the Folk Festival.

Welcome back, long time friends.
Welcome to everyone else! Thank you for listening.

This July 24, I have put together some music from the Wenge family of bands and musicians.
 Zaiko Langa-Langa launched a new youth sound in the 70s, leading to the creation of new super groups like Langa-Langa Stars, Viva la Musica and Victoria Eleison and the rise of a number of super stars from those groups.
Wenge Musica bands created a new youth sound in the 80s and again launched a whole new generation born of or influenced by them.
This program most likely does not contain a lot of old favorites for those listeners who came of age with the ndombolo sound, but it does give a chance to listen to a few and it does contain a few newer recordings and some songs by individuals who stared off in one or another of the Wenge bands and took their music in a personal direction.
