There was much to enjoy on this weeks AC show, David - many thanks for putting it all together.
Is that the first outing for the Orchestre International Rumbaya LP? Sounds good - is it worth tracking down a copy?
Please play the rest of the Santa Nyanga CD whenever you get the chance - if I don't hear it here then I won't hear it anywhere. Why is so difficult to find?
A couple of months back you played a superb track (Diakina) off LES IMMORTELS DE ZAIKO LANGA LANGA ORIGINAL MASTERS VOLUME 1. I was wondering if you'd be able to play Astrida from the same CD on some future show. Equally raucous but with the strange addition of a flute solo about half way through it. Genius! Looks like this flute business has been going on a while.

  3. Thanks for your requests, Apurva.
I'm always happy to play just about anything by any of those artists!

  4. Dave, I'm pretty sure I've played at least a couple of other tracks from that Rumbaya album over the years. I may have listed it in the Archives as a Loko Massengo album. I don't think it's available anywhere on CD, but I recall seeing it on a blog not too long ago. There is a Loko Massengo CD that claims to be Rumbaya, but it really isn't Rumbaya, or at least not THIS Rumbaya. It contains a lot of tracks from a couple of his solo LPs and the songs are entirely different in nature. More like Quatre Etoiles maybe.

Thanks for your request. I'll make a note!

  5. Dave:
Just did a quick check. Last time I played the Rumbaya album was May 11, 2008. Before that, I must have played it on the show I did on another station back in the '90s.

  6. Excellent playist you mad today. I am impressed with Luciana's song. He has always managed to make good songs. Kabose singing is always have been excellent.

La Bantou Capitale was a unique Brazzaville band. I think they are many songs that we need to discover that we don't get used to.

  7. Thanks for your comments, FPK.
I'm glad that you listened in and found some songs that you enjoyed.
Luciana Demingongo's album is a breath of fresh air. Just great!

  8. David,

How about a future show with flutes in Congolese rumba? i can think of lokassa's "Bonne Annee" and Mbilia's "Ba gerants ya mabala" off the bat.

    Thanks

  10. Hi Ken
That flute idea is a good one.
The song that Dave in Liverpool has requested is also a song with flute.

  11. Dear Anonymous,
You must have checked past program tracks! Those are 3 of 4 out of the 12 songs on the Chics Men CD that I have not played on the show.
Thanks for the request! I really like that CD a lot and it's time that I gave it another spin for everyone to hear.

  12. Thank you Daudi for the great lineup of songs. I am the one who wants the Les Chics Men songs. I would love to listen to the 4 remaining Les Chics Men songs that you have not posted. In my previous comment I asked for the 3 that were longest but playing all 4 eventually would be great. As I past time, I have learned to listen to themed songs from your blog. For example, a few weeks ago I looked for all songs with the title Destinee. Before that, I selected songs by Bendoson (also my favorite), Dagoson and Werrason (all ...sons). Great blog.
