Welcome!
Mostly turn of the century tunes this time, music from late 1990s and early 2000s. Listen for the new songs as well as these are very good: I'm very much enjoying Luciana Demingongo's ZANZIBAR and Santa Nyanga's EPOQUE COLONIALE as well as EXPLOSION from Les Bantous de La Capitale. We'll be hearing a lot more of Luciana's CD, that's for sure!
Thanks to those who requested songs. These were very nice additions to the program.

David, thanks for the latest AC show - do you think Zanzibar might be the best new release of the year so far? Tasteful playing, great songs and some quality production, just sheer joy to listen to. Hey, it's even got a flute solo on it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Nouvel Ordre track - never get tired of that one.
Mr Mapangala's recent shows in Liverpool got cancelled because of the poor weather but, consummate professional that he is, he and the band played a free show in a tiny city centre club instead. As you say, he's a great performer and, even though the band must have a combined age of about 300 years, they played with the energy of 20 year olds. What a guy, and he looks like he's got plenty of years left in him yet!
Hi Dave. Yeah, Zanzibar is tops on my list these days. What with Black Bazar and Santa Nyanga's CD, I'm feeling pretty good about this quiet return to thoroughly enjoyable music.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have to make myself try and like any of them LOL!
Was Misha M'Fum still with Samba?
There are some good photos of Samba plus band on the africanambiance forum - taken during another recent UK show. The only guy in the band that I recognized from the last time I saw him in 2006 is the guy who shares vocal duty - but that's not Misha M'Fum, is it? Seems to be some debate about who's who.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the photos, Dave. I don't see Misha.
ReplyDeleteThank you David. Special thanks for playing Amour Perdu. Apurva from Pune, India.
