Ambiance Congo: February 26, 2012

WELCOME!
Today we go back to the older music that so many listeners and friends love so very much.
Almost every song this time is from LP or 45, only 3 songs from CD...two reissues and a recent from Diany Bakela song at the very end.
We've got Choc Stars, Mando Negro Kwala-Kwa, Micky-Micky, OK Jazz and so much more.
Thanks for your requests! Again, you have added depth and enjoyment to the program.
Special thanks to Shad for his request of a song from Nzaya Nzayadio's KIMONA MESA album. I've had the song on constant replay for a couple of days now. Great sebene from guitarist S.O.S. In a word...WOW!
Thanks for listening. I look forward to your comments and requests for future programs.
As always, for your enjoyment, here are four covers from recordings to be heard on this edition of Ambiance Congo.

  1. Now you got my idols Franco and Pepe Kalle in your playist. Perfect. You know that I am a huge fan of these two superstars. I am convinced that Franco and Pepe Kalle are the kings of Congolese Music.

Franco and Pepe Kalle are my favorite musicians out all musicians I like.

Hopefully some people will help you get the needed funding.

  3. David, thanks for another top-notch show. I enjoyed the Mando Negro song immensely - do you think Master Mwana Congo played on that one? Blistering guitar sound whoever it was.
The Diany Bakela song at the end was another unexpected highlight - I'd never heard of her but I believe she sang on some of Pamelo Mounk'a's records. So probably the same ones that Mwana Congo played on. Funny how it all sort of fits together.

  4. Dave, Master Mwana Congo played with Mando Negro Kwala-Kwa and even composed songs with them, including one of my favorites called DAVID. He did work with Pamelo Mounk'a on a number of Pamelo's solo albums, but certainly not on on all of them. Mostly on the albums Pamelo made on Eddy Gustave's labels. Odd thing is, I cannot think of any of MMC's solo albums on Gustave's labels that feature the voice of Pamelo Mounk'a.

  5. By the way, Dave, you can see the cover of the album that Diany Bakela made with Pamelo Mounk'a here: http://ambiancecongo.blogspot.com/2009/04/ambiance-congo-for-sunday-april-12-2009.html

On that album, the band was Les Redoutables, Abeti's crew and a fine band they were!
