  1. great list once again. One of the very popular names Tshala is a Muluba name. There are so many Mulubas. They are one of the biggest groups of Congo. Johnny Bokelo also did a song called Tshala.

  2. You can hear that Bokelo song on the May 24, 2009 edition of this program.

David, thanks for another splendid AC show. Always good to hear Freres Soki and the Dino Vangu track had just the right amount of guitar noisiness on it.
It was interesting to hear the Luciana Demingongo track; I had the pleasure of seeing him play live when he was touring with Ballou Canta (and had Dally Kimoko in the band). Until I heard this track I'd sort of forgotten about him - very remiss, especially since he was really rather good. It would be quite hard to forget Dally Kimoko, though!

  4. Dave, beside the solo works, Luciana participates in a lot of the songs played on this program over the years. He, like Dally Kimoko, is a featured contributor to the songs of many others.

  5. Great selection David - many thanks for putting in those hours in compiling this show - week after week. Apurva from Pune, India.

  6. Thanks to YOU, Apurva.
Sometimes it comes down to running in to the studio with a box of CDs and LPs and hoping for the best. All depends upon what hand of cards life has dealt in the weeks before!

David, on the subject of Ballou Canta - I see that he appeared on the Orchestre Tele-Music de Brazzeville LP and guess that he was doing the backing singing duty on that record.
Are they the same Tele-Music who recorded the Embouteillage LP? I imagine they probably are and, since I don't think you've played anything from either LP for a while, what about giving one or the other a spin?
    Cheers.

  8. You are correct, Dave. It has been quite a while. Doing a search, I see only one Tele-Music song listed since this blog was started. I guess that means I have almost two whole albums I can plawithout risk of being overly repetitious!
Both albums are pretty much the same band. Ballou Canta is not on Embouteillage.
Reading the credits, I see Elangui Aime's name. I have an old solo CD of his that I haven't played in years. Maybe I'll play something from that as well. I'll have to give it a listen before Sunday.
