I love to present a program -such as this one- that includes so many different styles of modern Congolese music! Today we have songs from the 70s right up to today. We even have two very different songs that feature, to honor your requests, flutes mixed in with the horn section.
You'll hear a small tribute to the late Madilu System. You'll get killer 10+ minute track from Orchestre Sinza and songs from at least one older album that I've never spun on the show before.
So crank it up loud and play it often. Enjoy!

Thanks for a terrific AC show, David. A mixed bag it may have been but one filled with treats nontheless.
ReplyDeleteThe Moudou Mango & Sinza tracks were fantastic, as was the Madilu/Benz Petrole song at the end.
I presume that the Star Academy CD, and Benz Petrole as well for that matter, have vanished off the face of the earth since it came out.
Never heard of the excellent Tomawaks til you played them but, somewhat fortuitously (and sadly), their CD is currently languishing in the bargain bin at Sterns. It's not exactly a forgotten meisterwerk but it's well produced and has some great playing on it. Easily the best three quid I've spent this week! Re Jarrys Fimbo; would I be right in thinking that he too has vanished off the face of the earth?
Nearly forgot, thanks for the Zaiko track. Now that IS a meisterwerk!
A great playlist David. Many thanks! I renew my request for you to play a song (or several songs...)from Lubumbashi Stars. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Dave!
ReplyDeleteI agree about Les Tomawaks and I recommend that anyone who finds the CD in the bargain bin shoud grab it up.
Sorry that I forgot your request for Lubumbashi Stars, Apurva.
ReplyDeleteThere really is not a lot of their music available (to my knowledge).
I'll play what I've got for you!
Really enjoyed listening to the show David. Since I can't hear it live I always enjoy listening to your selections while working in the garden. Maybe that's why the plants of African origins are doing so well? (grin).
ReplyDeleteAny chance you could do an all female line-up (Abeti, Mpongo Love, Mbilia, Barbara, etc)?
Not a bad idea, Lorraine. It has been fronted before and I've done it before.
