Thank you Daudi for MJ30 and Kino Mabella. You made my day. I look forward to listening to Luciana Demingongo and Les Chics Men in the near future. You have a great program.
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Thanks for asking for these artists. You know that Les Chics Men put out one of the best albums of the decade. Too bad they only made that one album! I think I've played every song off of that CD on the program...a rare thing to play every song, especially from a CD. Do you have a favorite?
ReplyDeleteLuciana's Zanzibar was one of my big favs for 2012. Excellent album. Again, I've already played almost every song if not every one.
Hit me with your favorite and I'll spin it again!
Duadi:
ReplyDeleteYour program is so vital.
Can you possibly play Decca by Franco/Mangwana? It is a heavy, heavy song. And maybe Malo by Empire Bakuba?
Two stylish Mwana Congo tracks on the same show - is this going to be a regular feature? Hope so.
ReplyDeleteTrack list was a fine blend of the old and new - the MJ30/M'bilia Bel segue/comparison was interesting and (I think) really flattering to both singers.
Really enjoyable show, David, thanks.
Thanks very much for listening!
ReplyDeleteMy copy of the Afro Rythmes LP of Franco & Sam disappeared quite some time ago, I'm sorry to say. I've been trying to get another or at least a rip of it. We'll see what I can do! As I recall, the songs on that album were not listed correctly.
If you have a copy of the song you'd like to share with our listeners, that'd be very cool. Write to me again with your email. I won't publish that.
Malo is also an excellent song.
Dave, There are probably enough songs that include the great guitar of Master Mwana Congo to actually make two songs/show a regular feature.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the mix of songs. That MJ 30 / M'Bilia Bel thing was pretty cool, wasn't it?
Many thanks David! Just today, I heard Luciano's Zanzibar - for the amazing guitar work of Rigo Star.
ReplyDeleteSoon, I will listen to the fretwork of Master Mwana Congo from this episode of AC, after I get the file downloaded. Apurva from Pune, India.
I really like that Zanzibar album. I play it a lot. Thanks for listening and for taking a moment to write, Apurva!
ReplyDeleteHello Daudi:
ReplyDeleteLes Chics Men's "Bantula Mpaka" and Luciana Demingongo's "Bantula Mpaka" or "Galere" or "Avida" would be great. You have such a great program.
Those are ALL Chics Men songs, aren't they? I don't believe any of them are Luciana Demingongo's.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right Daudi. Bantula Mpaka, Galere and Avida are by Les Chics Men. Princess Julia by Luciana Demingongo is the one I meant.
ReplyDeletePrincess Julia, from the first Nouvelle Generation album. I just got that album about six months ago! I did not know of it until someone on a forum wrote about it.
