David, thanks for another couple of hours of scratchy old vinyl treats. That Dr Nico track was a fine choice and it's always good to hear Mr Bidens. Highly entertaining indeed.
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised to see that Fiston Lusambo's ZongZing All Stars will play the opening slot at the Africa Oye festival in Liverpool this coming Saturday. Check out the band's Biog page of their website Zongzing.com to see who they've played with over the years. Pretty impressive, eh?
If they still possess just a fraction of their collective magic, then they should be pretty good. Headlining are the mighty Osibisa - do you remember them?
I've never heard of the band, Dave.
ReplyDeleteCan you ask them to send me a demo?
I like this site. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pigsly.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a request please let me know.
David - thank you for playing the Andre Pamomiel and Defao songs. I have renewed respect and regard for Rigo Star with amazingly subtle musical genius. I can only request you for more of Rigo Star - with Reddy Amisi singing please! Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you, my friend! Of course I can play more of Rigo Star with Reddy Amisi. No problem!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the request!
Is it all vinyl again this week, David? If not, any chance you could play something from Dagoson's Incomprehension CD? It's probably not up to Chics Men standard but it certainly stands up to repeated listening - how about Chaufele or Edo Ndinga? The title track's not bad either.
ReplyDeleteOr if you're doing retro stuff, how about Calamite from Les Deux Grands Numeros?
No chance of a ZongZing demo, I'm afraid. Their e-mail doesn't work and they didn't manage to get their CD on the merchandise stall on the day. I think they only arrived on site just before they played.
They can certainly make a good noise, though. In between the party stuff they did a couple of early 1980s-style songs that were sheer joy to hear.
Thanks, Dave. I am mixing it up this time so your requests will go well. I'll get at least one in for you!
