Welcome!
On today's program we have some great classics along with a few good new tracks. We start with the wonderful guitar of Rigo Star on the song Bilobi by Pepe Pepito. I've been trying to track down who Pepe Pepito is, but haven't had much luck. I bought this LP back in the day . I saw Rigo Star's name on the back and had a listen in the boutique. NICE track for you from a NICE album.
We also have a cut from the album that Pepy-Ipepy made with Papa Wemba. Sebastien wrote to me recently, saying that's his mom in the photo with Pay-Ipepy on the back of the album. Thanks for that, Sebastien, and I'm glad that you enjoyed the song.
I also pulled out some more LPs that I haven't listened to in a while. Like the Michelino & Franco album and the CD by Guy-Guy Fall. Hope you enjoy these!

Welcome to another year of Ambiance Congo!
Every other Sunday I present two hours of Congolese popular music, brought to you by WRIR 97.3 FM, Richmond, Virginia's all volunteer community radio station. The music is broadcast live on air and streamed live on the net.
Thanks to everyone who listens and enjoys and special thanks to those of you who take a moment to call or send in a comment or request. I always try to bring you high quality music from the 20th and now 21st centuries. I strive to show the wide variety in Congolese music and sheer volume of what has been recorded by never playing a song more than once. The selections usually reflect my own personal taste, but I'm ALWAYS happy to play a song that you might favor or prefer, even if I've played it before. So keep the requests coming, friends. Your musical selections and, sometimes, your musical contributions make the program better.
I've started the year off with a show that features everyone's favorite: older music on vinyl.
