Every other Sunday I present two hours of Congolese popular music, brought to you by WRIR 97.3 FM, Richmond, Virginia's all volunteer community radio station. The music is broadcast live on air and streamed live on the net.
Thanks to everyone who listens and enjoys and special thanks to those of you who take a moment to call or send in a comment or request. I always try to bring you high quality music from the 20th and now 21st centuries. I strive to show the wide variety in Congolese music and sheer volume of what has been recorded by never playing a song more than once. The selections usually reflect my own personal taste, but I'm ALWAYS happy to play a song that you might favor or prefer, even if I've played it before. So keep the requests coming, friends. Your musical selections and, sometimes, your musical contributions make the program better.
I've started the year off with a show that features everyone's favorite: older music on vinyl.
Thanks for listening and I hope to hear from YOU soon!
Daudi

Some very nice tunes on this week's show, David. I didn't know Remmy Ongala had ever done stuff like that - thanks for giving it an airing.
ReplyDeleteApropos of nothing, Guinness have just launched their latest commercial in the UK. Whilst not that interesting in itself, it does feature a Congolese dimension. Check it out here http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/video-new-guinness-tv-advert-3034433 or Google "Guinness Sapeur"
If they'd used some Congolese music I might have bought a pint. But they didn't.
Dave, as I said, that's one of the most straight up Congolese songs I've heard from Doktor Remmy. He should have done more...he probably did but I haven't heard them. YET!
ReplyDeleteOK. I'll check out the link. Sounds weird enough to be my cup of stout.
A belated thanks for this edition of AC. I am yet to listen to the episode due to work pressure and travel, but I do appreciate your efforts and generosity. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteAs always, Apurva, I appreciate that you take the time to send a note! I'm sure you will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteDave, did you notice in the film that NO ONE is drinking the stout? The only glass that has been touched is a glass of lager. Probably Skol or Primus.
