Today's program starts with a look at the evolution of music in the 70s, focusing primarily on the influence of Verckys and those, like Franco and James Brown, who had an influence on him. We also have a couple of songs by the late Tabu Ley Rochereau, who passed one year prior to the presentation of this program, as well as songs by Lipua-Lipua, Empire Bakuba, Choc Stars and Zaiko Langa-Langa.
Thanks to all who requested songs!

Thank you David for the AC program. Apologies for the delay in appreciating your efforts towards sharing of this excellent music. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you are listening to this great music. I know you're doing it even if you say nothing. It's good to know you're there.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for playing the Mavwela track, David. I thought it fitted in quite nicely with the general funkiness of the first hour.
ReplyDeleteGood to see Verckys getting a release through Analog Africa; They've managed to raise the profile of a whole host of other African countries with some stellar releases so I really hope they can work their magic on the Congo. Hey, maybe we will live to see that Orchestre Sinza retrospective after all!
Analog Africa does do a great job. That Mavwela song was an excellent choice! I cannot recall when I last listened to that particular Tabu Ley LP, Thanks for getting me to drag it out and spin it again!
