Unabashed self-indulgence rules today. I've assembled songs from albums and compilations on my turntable and CD player since last time. Although all of these are not necessarily my favorite all-time songs, I enjoy these recordings a lot and I'm hoping that you will listen and understand why! As an added treat there are a few "live" recordings in the mix.
If you hear a song that you really like and want to hear more from a particular album, if you'd like to request a song from a favorite album of your own, please let me know! If I have it, I will play it.

I love that Seigneur Ley On Tour cover so much; simultaneously the best and the worst piece of album art ever committed to print. When they were unrolling the umpteenth roll of foil you'd think someone would have said "No!"
ReplyDeleteHa! This is a spotty album. There are some really good songs and some songs that don't cut it until the sebene. On another note, this sleeve reminds me of how I walked behind a wall at a French museum to see that they used light reflected off of an aluminum foil covered wall to backlight some Tiffany stained glass windows. I was in this 3 foot wide tunnel that had art on one side and aluminum foil and 8' fluorescent tubes on the other. I'd never seen THAT done before. It had it's good points I guess.
ReplyDeleteYou might be wondering what performances by the creme de la creme of late 60s British rock bands on a groovy French TV show in 1968 have to do with Congolese music. The short answer is, absolutely nothing. But what is of interest here is the lavish use of kitchen foil by the Parisian studio set-designers. There's so much of it I can only conclude that it has, or had, a special place in the hearts of the French artistic community.
ReplyDeleteIf you whizz through to the 27 minute mark you'll find a short set from the Floyd, sans foil for some strange reason - although you'd think if any band would benefit from a shiny metallic backdrop then it'd be the Floyd.
Anyway, here it is;
