Ambiance Congo: September 15, 2019

WELCOME!
Wow...28 songs today! This program of Congolese music usually features between about 12 and about 16 songs. But today's program is, primarily, music from the 1950s.
Of course, this is nowhere near a truly comprehensive presentation of the era. I just listen to a lot of this music and these are a few songs that I happened to like recently.
I wish I had added something from the Dieu de La Guitare album ( the Planet Ilunga set) of Docteur Nico and had added another Grand Kalle song. My bad.
So check out the first song for example. It's from a set called "Cubanismo from the Congo", but although there is a strong affinity with Cuban rumba, it has more local and coastal African influences. By the middle of the 50s, though, Congolese Rumba was an individual force to be reckoned with all over Africa that was also influencing music in the Western Hemisphere.
In the second hour, we have some later music by some incredibly gifted grandfathers and some other related music, then back to the 50s.
