Ambiance Congo: January 13, 2013

Welcome!
Ready for yet another year of Ambiance Congo radio programs? I hope you'll listen today for a taste of what's to come.
This edition is a typical mix of new and old, giving you a chance to hear the diverse yet constant sound of this great popular music. I always like to listen to it loud, but I had it CRANKED this time.
I was surprised to see that I'd never played JB's Sultan de Brunei before...so here it is. Along with tracks by Tabu Ley, G.O. Malebo, Bill Clinton and more.

Ambiance Congo: December 30, 2012

Welcome!
This last program of the year is not full of Happy New Year songs, but I think that it is full of good songs. I hope that you'll agree.
If you've been following, I have yet another great song from Santa Nyanga's Epoch Coloniale album, one of my very favorite CDs of 2012 and yet almost impossible to obtain! Please let us all know where to buy a copy if have been able to!
I had a few technical difficulties - a CD I made from an LP did not play well and there was an issue with the mic feed to the web during the program. That mic thing was not an issue with the podcast recording as that comes straight out of the board. Regardless, this show has what you want, so download, listen and share!
Thanks for your support, thanks for listenig and thanks for all the wonderful requests and comments of 2012.

Ambiance Congo: December 16, 2012

Welcome!
Welcome, friends, to Ambiance Congo. I present two hours of Congolese music every other Sunday afternoon. Here's hoping that you will enjoy the music!
Here are links to download today's program:
http://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJaZ282bEpsUis5TE1UQw
http://www.radio4all.net/index.php?op=result&action=series&series=Ambiance%20Congo&nav=&
This time you'll hear a few LPs to start. I just bought the Ange Linaud album on an auction site.
I'm a big fan of his music and I have to tell you, the A side did not do ANYTHING for me and I was disappointed. Until I heard POINT CARRE. What a great song! The album features singers Ange Linaud, Nyboma Mwan Dido, and Asi Kapela. This is a great combination of voices that, with Nyboma, I think I have not heard before. The guitar work of Dizzy Mandjekou, Bopol Mansiamina, Marlhos and Souza is simply stunning and percussions are by the great Danialou Sagbohan of Benin and Ringo Moya. In a word: Wow! Maybe that one song was worth the price of admission. What do you think?

Whenever possible, I am happy to honor any request for any Congolese music. This time, you asked for Bavon Marie-Marie, Rento Vena and Emeneya and I was more than happy to oblige! I had not listened to the Rento Vena CD in a very long time and, thanks to Dave in UK for the request, the song presented here today is one of the best on the disc. You HAVE to like it!

You'll also hear some really wonderful modern songs, including the incredible NZANZALE by Dezai N'Accompa. Every time I listen to this album, I enjoy it more and I think this has to be one of my favorite songs for 2012.

WRIR is an all-vounteer station in the USA. As far as I know, Ambiance Congo is the only English-language program that brings you nothing but the best in Lingala music live on radio. I'm completely stumped at how this could be, be c'est la vie, mes amis!

Don't miss out on this edition of Ambiance Congo.

Ambiance Congo: November 18,2012

Welcome!
Lorraine, a local listener, commented that she'd like to hear another program dedicated to the vocal talents of Congolese women. You may hear the first edition of the series here: http://www.radio4all.net/index.php/program/40676
Merci mingi, Lorraine!

So here you have it. Two hours of female vocalists in many styles of Congolese popular music.
Some great hip-swinging tracks  and wonderful sebenes are included!

Here are album covers:

Got to love the ladies! There are soaring vocals and sizzling guitars. I love the South African bassline in Yondo Sister's song. It underscores the Pan-African appeal of Lingala music!
