Ambiance Congo: January 15, 2012

Welcome!
This past week has been a very festive and very busy time for me, and I knew I'd have to put together a program on site and on air with no preparation. Thanks to requests and suggestions from forum members at Vibes D'Afrique and Africambiance (please visit them via links on this page), I was able to present a wonderful line up of songs for your enjoyment as well as my own! I asked for help with ideas for a celebration and our friends came through with flying colors. I plan to play the copy of this mix at home tomorrow as I celebrate my 58th birthday, so my sincere thanks go out to to everyone who helped out!
Here are some covers from a few albums.
You are invited to download the program here:
This link is only good for the next two weeks, but you can also download or listen here:

  1. Thanks DJ. Lipua Lipua was quite a dynamic band. I just this band could go longer than it did.

  2. Yeah. Great band!
I was asked to play some Lipua-Lipua or something by Nyboma. Thanks to Geoffrey for that.
I hope that YOU liked hearing Kabasele Yampanya's voice on that song, FPK!.

  5. Many thanks David, for another great show - a fine mix of the familiar, the obscure ( well, to me anyway) and the utterly sublime.
I never heard of Klay until now but he's gone from obscure to sublime in just a few minutes. What a guy!
I think I'm going to have to track down some Afrizam stuff as well, after hearing them. (Blimey, this is going to cost me a fortune.)
Happy 58th, by the way. Viva DJ Daudi!

  6. Dave, your comments are always so encouraging!
That Klay album is great. I know nothing about Klay himself, but the rest of the band is all Zaiko mambers including great guitar by Popolipo. I remember buying that album back in the early-mid 80s somethime. There were a number of African record boutiques in Washington DC at the timeand in every store, EVERYBODY was playing that record, now it has vanished into obscurity.

  8. David, a couple of years back you played some tracks from a then new Verckys album called Immortel (or Coup de Marteau - not quite sure which). It sounded superb and had a bit of a retro 80's feel to it. Would a track from that CD fit with an 80's and 90's themed show? Hope so. Or maybe it would be better suited to a show on Congolese comeback albums. Either way I'd love to hear some more of it.
    Many thanks.

  9. Hey Dave.
No themes really. I just start with what I'm listening to at the time.
I'm happy to play Verckys at ANY time!
