Unfortunately this week we lost a great singer in Ndombe Opetum. Ndombe was a dynamic singer and he made some great songs. One song he made was Voyage ya Bandundu. That song was really touching to me as a music listener. I like you playist. Next time, do a Ndombe tribute if you want. It would be a gretat idea

ReplyDeleteI'm working on that already. I intend to play one of those great 20 minute medleys of his.
Many thanks for the thought, though!
David, many thanks for playing the old Bumba Massa song - a very good selection and one I've not heard before. I really enjoyed that Clan Zaiko track as well - is the rest of the CD as good?
ReplyDeleteVery sad news about Ndombe Opetum - I loved all the Afrizam stuff that I've heard on here so a tribute would be welcomed.
One last thing, what's happening on the cover of the Kongo Retro Band LP?
Captions invited.
Hi Dave.
ReplyDeleteThe Clan Zaiko Langa-Langa CD is pretty good. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat! It is good to hear these guys have kept their voices after all the years and the songs are all enjoyable.
I know as much as you about the cover image for Kongo Retro Band. Seems to be a guy in a trenchcoat standing in front of a self-service gas station & carwash. Maybe there is an an allusion to the fact that such entities exist now but did not exist when the original music performed by artists mentioned in the song (Bukasa, Oliveira, etc) were working? If so, maybe the guy with the suitcase is a time-traveler? LOL.
Thank you David for this wonderful show. Enjoyed the Choc Stars, Defao and Mose Fan Fan. Excellent show! Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to you, Apurva.
ReplyDeleteThat Choc Stars album, for some unknown reason, has sat upon the shelf for a long time. I guess that I forgot that I had it. There may be a misdemeanor offense listed somewhere for that. I hope they don't come looking for me with the handcuffs.
