Ambiance Congo: May 6, 2012

Welcome!
Many thanks to all who made requests for this program. As always, it is great to include your selections.
I have a number of new releases from some of the older generations worked into a line up of music from the 70s to today. I hope that you'll enjoy those as much as I do.

David, thanks for yet another enjoyable show and for playing the Vadio Mambenga track. Good to get some info about him too - anyone brave enough to get on stage in 1970's Zaire in drag just commands respect.
The Bantous CD sounds superb but, such are the vagaries of Congolese music distribution, it'll no doubt be a bit of a challenge trying to get hold of a copy. Interestingly, I see Mose Fanfan has a new release scheduled for June and it looks like he has his own site where it can be bought and downloaded. So, the consumer gets the music and the artist gets the money. What could be simpler than that? Result!

  2. Dave, if you do a search for the Bantous album, you'll find a vendor in France who carries it. That's where I got mine. They are very reliable.
Can we get Fan Fan's album now?
I've heard samples and it sounds great.

I found the French site - thanks. As for Musicatelama, I think this is it. http://mosefanfan.bandcamp.com/album/musicatelama

David, do you think it could be time for some Trio Madjesi on the next show - perhaps one of their funkier excursions? Or, on a more melodic level, how about some old Bumba Massa?
I got a couple of his vinyl LPs recently, Dovi & the one with the Redoutables, and they are very very good. If you have any more of his old and, as yet unplayed on AC, stuff on vinyl I'd love to hear it. Cheers.

  5. I have a bunch of Bumab Massa's albums. I'll take a look and listen for something good that I have yet to spin.
    Thanks, Dave!

  6. First an apology for not posting a comment earlier. Just starting to listen to the program and can see a fantastic song lineup ahead. A special thanks for the Reddy Amisi song that contains work of one my very favourite guitarists - Rigo Star. Many thanks for the Victoria Eleison song also. Apurva from Pune, India.
