We have been enjoying a lot of older music of late on Ambiance Congo, so today I'm spinning mostly 21st Century tunes. The Zaiko track, TSHIBAWU, from the 2001 maxi-single FEELING is one of those songs I can play again and again on any given day! We've got new songs from Ferre Gola and Fally Ipupa as well and more. I've added a couple of older songs from LPs at the end...just in case! I hope you'll enjoy the program.

Thanks for another great AC show, David - really good to hear another track from the Verckys Immortel CD. I think that's another of those discs that they only pressed one copy of, and you've got that one copy!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear the Papy Tex/Likinga track as well. Speaking of Mr Tex, have you ever played anything off the Wasiwa CD? I think it was released in 1997 but it sounds way too raw for the 90s. If you have it then maybe you could give the track Bimasha a whirl at some point - it's got some great tambourine on it. No really, it has!
Dave, thanks for your note. The Verckys CD, like the one he published for Youlou Mabiala about the same time, was a limited press. Youlou's was even more limited and is impossible to get I think. VEVE's CD was widely available for a time and I expect you can still find it if only in digital format.
ReplyDeleteI do have the Wasiwa disc and I'm happy to spin Bimasha for you.
David, thanks for compiling this show. I dare say that the older Congolese music is SO MUCH better. My personal favorite from this edition is Zakina with the superlative guitar of Rigo Star. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteApurva, every time that I play a song with Rigo Star, and there are so very many(!), I think of you.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the older music is far superior, but I like some of the newer music as well. I know that your opinion represents the vast majority of listeners as well. Shows with the older music are consistently downloaded at a rate of almost 3-1 over shows that feature newer music.
