Ambiance Congo: July 28, 2013

Welcome!
The program today is all singles. We've got mostly 7" singles and songs from compilations on vinyl and on CD, but there are even a couple of tracks from modern maxi-singles as well. I hope that you'll enjoy the music! A number of tracks are from older 12" compilations on the African and Pathe Marconi labels. Some are from the outstanding Serie Single Fetish Original CDs compiled by Ngoyarto.
Next time, listen for songs originally produced by Verckys on the great Editions VeVe International label.

Thanks for another fine show, David - quality from Lita Bembo right through to Super Mazembe.
On the subject of Lita Bembo - some time ago you mentioned his weird Brussels LP, Conflit, and its deranged synth sound. I was intrigued.
Well, it's been a bit of a wait but I finally came across a copy of it in an online bargain bin. It hasn't arrived yet but I've got a feeling I'm going to enjoy it. In a challenging sort of way.
A Verckys/Veve show sounds good, by the way - but where do you start on a show like that?

  4. Glad that you enjoyed it, Dave.
Yes. You will enjoy the Conflit album. I do. I'm intrigued by the "online bargain bin". I wish I knew where THAT was!

It's in the Marketplace bit of Discogs.com. Quite a clever idea for a site, database and shop combined. OK if you're not too picky about quality and don't attempt inter-continental shipping!
Forgot to mention, did you know that Ruffin Nkoy's new album, Jeu de six, is out? I think it might be a download-only release (release date shown as August 2nd) and it's actually not bad. There's quite a few guest appearances, not too many shouty bits and you don't need to fast forward or skip any of it. So that probably makes it a triumphal comeback!
