Almost no time for preparation beforehand meant lots of vinyl again for most of the program today with most tunes picked and queued on the spot while the previous song was playing! You'll find some surprisingly unlikely yet surprisingly good segues (a song by Langa Langa Stars leading into one by Jean Sylvain Goma for example) as a result. I also ended up spinning a lot of records I've spun before, so it was hard to find and post the usual four album covers unique to every show.
I do enjoy presenting these off-the-cuff and out-of-the-box presentations, though, and I hope you'll like this one.
Requests and comments are always welcome!

Thanks for this wonderful episode of AC. Many thanks for playing my request. Several great songs in this program - enjoyed the Dindo Yogo and Gloria Tukhadio apart from the Grand Zaiko song. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you liked it. I had a really good time on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteUnplanned and straight out-the-box it may have been but it was still a mighty fine show. Was that the first time you've played the MANDAT D’ARRET LP? Very nice track.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, did you ever go to the African Music Gallery in Washington when it still existed? The reason I ask is I've just got hold of a handful of pretty unusual Congolese LPs from the 1980s, all of which have stickers on them suggesting they originated from that store. All I can say is it must have been an interesting shop!
Pick of the crop is an LP called Madjenine(?) by Emmanuel Nsakala Nguimbi & L'Orchestre Brazza Kin Ambiance. Have you ever heard it? It's fantastic.
I've since found out that it's the first LP from the otherwise rather dodgy Dr Sakis, but it's still fantastic.
Dave, I practically spent every cent I had at the African Music Gallery over the course of about 15-20 years. It moved a few times and I had to go looking for it, but that was my place to buy records. I don't know how many I have with the production label info carefully cut away with an exacto knife and then covered with the Gallery's sticker!
ReplyDeleteNo, sir, I have not heard that album. Any way I can?
Dave:
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the record. I bought a copy from the other man. As he's close to here in USA, I should have mine in a couple of days.
I published your comment, but then noticed there was some sensitive info in it so I deleted it.
Jorge de Barranquilla:
ReplyDeleteNo he publicado a tu commento porque has incuido a tu email en el comment. He buscado, pero no tengo el disco de Zaiko que deseas.
Lo siento!
