I've got a lot of music recorded in the very late 90s and early 2000s today. This was a very prolific period for Congolese music and a lot of new directions were tried. Yet these new directions were still focused on the classic form with adagio, mid-tempo and sebene. Check out Montana Kamenga's song, from the aptly named CD Millenium 2000, for an example. This is the school of Kofffi Olomide, but I think Koffi should go back and listen to Montana!
I have some much older, including our first and last tracks, and much newer music added for your enjoyment.

Lovely program listing. Downloading AC now. Many thanks for sharing. Apurva from Pune, India.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear what you thought after listening, Apurva. Your knowledge of and appreciation for Congolese music are nothing short of wonderful!
ReplyDeletePlease let me know if you have any requests or suggestions.
David, you were right about that Grand Zaiko track - lovely bit of music. Is that the same LP from whence came the utterly sublime Sonya?
ReplyDeleteThe Teddy Sukami track followed on really nicely too. In fact, I think it might even have been slightly more magnificent than the Manuaku one!
Yes, Dave, same Grand Zaiko album.

Yeah, that Teddy Sukami album is pretty good, but I hardly ever gripe about anything Zaiko. Teddy made some damn fine albums under his own name, enlisting singers like Kanda Bongo Man and Bozi Boziana.
Thanks for the link to the vinyl sales guy, my friend!
