Ambiance Congo: May 13, 2018

Welcome!
Today is Mother's Day on Ambiance Congo so I have played songs that feature women singers in the first hour. We have songs by some of the most famous of Congolese women vocalists like M'Bila Bel and M'Pongo Love as well as some songs by other women who have worked with some of my favorite male artists such as Tabu Ley, Youlou Mabiala, Bozi Boziana and Le Karmapa.
The second hour takes us elsewhere with more wonderful music.
Enjoy!

  1. Hi David,

Thanks for another epic show; great choices as always.

Re the Karmapa track; the album came out as two separate digipaks, as you know. The credits on both are the same. Here they are-
Lead vocal; Karmapa, Julia Amazone, Juliano, Bebelass, Biga Picasso, JTM
Choeur; JTM, Juliano, Bebelass, Biga Picasso, Julia Amazone
Animation; Mayi Ya Nkamba, Zulu, Matembele, Terminator
    Lead guitar; Popolipo, Paquebot
    Rythmique; Paquebot, Patrick Siense
Bass; Lofombo, Pathy Bass, Rucket Bass
    Clavier; Olivier Ngoy
    Congas; Koka Kola, Jimmy Mbonda

So, no MJ30 it seems, not even in the remerciements, though I can see why you'd think it was her.

Just in case you're interested, the new Bozi album came out as two separate card-sleeve releases with no credits whatsoever. What's all that about then, does no-one care anymore?

  2. Thanks for the information, Dave! This very helpful!
Have you had a chance to hear Blaise Bula's new set of discs?
I have these on constant replay right now!

  3. Blaise Bula new releases? Just found them now. No, I didn't know they were out or even scheduled.

I'll see if my Parisian "agent" can track them down if they've actually come out on CD.

He tells a very amusing story about the difficulties obtaining new releases in Chateau Rouge these days. A simple enquiry in a shop leads to a trip to a drinking club, on to a ladies hairdressers, then a Euro/African shipping office, and then being left hanging around whilst the target CD is fetched from who knows where. Nice price, though.

I notice that Debs have some Mopero and Mobeti stuff out on download as well.

There are Vols 1 to 3, apparently. I haven't listened to any of it yet and don't know the source of the tracks - you're going to be more familiar with them than me.

  4. Thanks, Dave. I'll look at the track lists for the Mopero and Mobeti releases.
Another good tip from you, sir!
