Ambiance Congo: February 26, 2012

WELCOME!
Today we go back to the older music that so many listeners and friends love so very much.
Almost every song this time is from LP or 45, only 3 songs from CD...two reissues and a recent from Diany Bakela song at the very end.
We've got Choc Stars, Mando Negro Kwala-Kwa, Micky-Micky, OK Jazz and so much more.
Thanks for your requests! Again, you have added depth and enjoyment to the program.
Special thanks to Shad for his request of a song from Nzaya Nzayadio's KIMONA MESA album. I've had the song on constant replay for a couple of days now. Great sebene from guitarist S.O.S. In a word...WOW!
Thanks for listening. I look forward to your comments and requests for future programs.

As always, for your enjoyment, here are four covers from recordings to be heard on this edition of Ambiance Congo.

Ambiance Congo: February 12, 2012

Welcome!

Happy Saint Valentine's day!

I hope you'll find some music to love on today's program.

Let's start with a few romantic songs, some new, some not so new, some somewhere in between!
Later we get some tid-bits from the new schools of Wenge.

But mostly we'll hear some new music for the rest of the show...with the exception of a little known masterwork from the late Nino Malapet.

Tha music says it all. I don't have to talk....
Play it loud. Have a good time!

Here are a few album covers.

You may download the program here (for two weeks):

Ambiance Congo: January 15, 2012

Welcome!

This past week has been a very festive and very busy time for me, and I knew I'd have to put together a program on site and on air with no preparation. Thanks to requests and suggestions from forum members at Vibes D'Afrique and Africambiance (please visit them via links on this page), I was able to present a wonderful line up of songs for your enjoyment as well as my own! I asked for help with ideas for a celebration and our friends came through with flying colors. I plan to play the copy of this mix at home tomorrow as I celebrate my 58th birthday, so my sincere thanks go out to to everyone who helped out!

Ambiance Congo: November 20, 2011

WELCOME!
Recent trends and fashions in Congolese music have led to a lot of commentary about how bad these trends and fashions have been. The guitar-led sebene has been a rare element in new music, a lot of new albums are filled with yawn-inducing ballads and songs with incomprehensible tempo changes, noisy atalaku calls and growling, mabanga-filled lyrics. These are all valid complaints, but not all new music should be readily dismissed and there are, in fact, quite a number of good songs and good albums being made.
On today's progam, I've tried to present for you some examples of the good new songs out there on the Congo music scene, songs produced in the last year or two. For variety and comparison, the show starts and ends with some older tracks, most presented originally some ten to twenty years ago.
I'd love to hear your comments on today's selections. Thanks for listening!
Here the covers of a few of the albums you'll hear this time around on Ambiance Congo.

Ambiance Congo: November 6, 2011

WELCOME!nce again to Ambiance Congo.
I hope that you'll enjoy the program. In my on-going efforts to provide you with the best quality that I can, I've tried a new way to record the program, while presenting it live on air, for those of you who are unable to listen live.
As this was a bit of an experiment, the first couple of songs may be amped up a bit too high, but overall it sounds very good to me. Please let me know what you think! If your feedback tells me that this is an improvement, I will do my best to continue with it this way in the future.

As usual, today's show is a mix of older music and new releases.

Here are some of the album covers.
